Let’s explore three simple methods to turn your ordinary cake into a heart-shaped delight. So let's dive into the joy of baking without the fuss!

Method 1: Using a Round Baking Pan

With this method, start with a basic round cake. Using a simple cutting technique demonstrated in the video below, trim two edges and attach them to the top using buttercream or ganache, forming a heart shape. After you attach the pieces make sure you place the cake in the fridge so the pieces fully set and don’t cause you frustration when you’re decorating your cake.

Method 2: Using a Round and Square Pan

If you have a round pan and a square one, try this method! Bake two separate cakes, one in a square pan and the other in a round pan. After baking, cut the round cake in half and position each half on adjacent corners of the square cake. Use buttercream or ganache to secure the pieces, forming a seamless heart shape. Also remember to let the frosting set in the fridge before you proceed!

Method 3: Sheet Pan with Shaping

This method is the winner when it comes to the most basic tools, because what if you don’t even have a round baking pan? You most definitely have a baking tray (a basic one, you don’t need anything special). Begin by baking your favourite cake batter in a sheet pan. Once baked, use a round plate to create a circular base, and employ the cut-and-glue technique from Method 1. Alternatively, you can cut a paper heart template or print one to guide your knife and shape the cake accordingly.

The only challenge in this method is the crumbs on the edges of the cake, which might be a pain when frosting the edges of the cake. In this cake, I highly recommend using a butter based recipe because butter based cakes are usually less fluffy and easier to manage when cutting and shaping a cake.

If the idea of crafting a heart-shaped cake using basic tools seems a bit much for your current kitchen setup, or if you simply want to skip the DIY process, investing in a heart-shaped pan is a fantastic alternative. Fortunately, heart-shaped pans are readily available. So who sells heart shaped cake pans?

Here are a few options:

1. Pink Heart Pans - Set of 6

This is the Paris Hilton Heart Shaped Nonstick Bakeware Set, honestly really good value for your money! You get 2 large pans and 4 mini ones. Let’s not mention how cute these are??

2. Aluminum Heart Pans - Set of 2

Another good option with a fair price, the good thing about this set is that it has 2 of the best and most used sizes: a 6 inch pan and an 8 inch one, which, if you’re w regular baker, you would know that these are the most common sizes we use. These are durable, non-stick pans (although always prep them of course!), that I would recommend.

3. Silicone Heart Pans - Set of 2

Now I don’t personally love silicone pans, I feel like they leave an unpleasant smell. However, they’re a good option if you’re on a budget and they’re very easy to use. They’re also the easiest when it comes to removing the cake from your pan.
