Steps to Make Honey BBQ Chicken Wings
Start by cutting each chicken wing into three parts: drumette, wingette, and tip. You can discard the tip or save it for making stock. Place the drumettes and wingettes into a large mixing bowl.
Before adding the spices, make sure the wings are dry (you can pat them with paper towel before adding them to the bowl). Add baking powder (this helps the wings crisp up), salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika to the bowl. Use your hands or a spoon to mix everything thoroughly, ensuring each wing is evenly coated with the seasoning.
Line a baking tray with aluminum foil, and then add a layer of baking paper on top to prevent the wings from sticking. Place the seasoned wings on the tray in a single layer, making sure there’s a bit of space between each one for even cooking.
Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F). Bake the wings for 25 minutes, then flip them over and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Keep an eye on them towards the end of the baking time; every oven is different, so adjust the time as needed until the wings are crispy and golden on both sides.
While the wings are baking, prepare the honey BBQ sauce. In a bowl, combine BBQ sauce and honey. If your BBQ sauce has been refrigerated and is cold, warm the honey and BBQ sauce together in a saucepan over low heat. This ensures the sauce coats the wings smoothly and keeps them warm when served.
Once the wings are fully cooked and crispy on both sides, transfer them to the bowl with the honey BBQ sauce. Toss the wings gently but thoroughly to ensure they are evenly coated.
Arrange the wings on a serving platter, and serve them hot with your favorite dips.
