This recipe comes straight from my sister Lea. If you don’t know her yet, she shares her recipes here on the blog too. In our family, she has quite the reputation, everyone says she’s an amazing cook.
She sent me this cheesy garlic bread recipe, and of course, I had to make it and share it here. Because honestly, garlic bread is one of those must-have recipes on any blog. It’s cheesy, everyone loves it, and absolutely delicious.
That being said, if you see two different versions in the images, it’s because I wanted to share the one I made and the one she made as well!

Ingredients to make easy garlic bread with cheese:
- Bread of you choice: A French baguette or something similar works best because it gets crispy on the outside while staying soft inside. You can also use ciabatta or any crusty loaf.
- Garlic: Fresh garlic is key for real flavor. Garlic powder works in a pinch, but fresh will always taste better.
- Parsley: Fresh parsley adds color and freshness. If you don’t have it, you can skip it or use dried parsley, but the flavor won’t be as bright.
- Mozzarella: Shredded mozzarella melts beautifully, which is what you want. Some cheeses don’t melt as well, so if you want alternatives, try provolone or Monterey Jack.
- Salt and pepper: A little salt balances the flavors, and I like to use freshly grated black pepper but of course you can use already grated black pepper.
Measurements are posted in the recipe card below the instructions.
Instructions to make cheesy garlic bread:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Cut the baguette, or the bread you’re using, in half and place it on a baking tray. Wash and finely chop the parsley. Grate the garlic. In a bowl, mix together the butter, parsley, garlic, salt, and freshly grated black pepper.

2. Spread the butter mixture evenly over the bread.

3. Top with shredded mozzarella.

4. Bake for about 10 minutes until the bread is crispy, then switch to broil for 1 to 2 minutes to get that golden, bubbly top.

Frequently Asked Questions:
- Can I use a different type of bread? Yes, any crusty bread works. Baguette, ciabatta, or even a country loaf all give great results.
- Can I make it without cheese? Of course. Leave out the cheese and you’ll have classic garlic bread.
- Can I prepare it ahead of time? Yes, you can assemble the bread with the butter mixture and cheese, then keep it in the fridge for a few hours. Bake right before serving.
- What cheese works best? Mozzarella melts beautifully, but you can also try provolone, Monterey Jack, or a mix with parmesan for extra flavor.

Storage Tips:
If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Warm them in the oven so the bread gets crispy again, avoid the microwave, it makes the bread soggy.
For freezing, you can prepare the garlic bread but don’t bake it yet. Wrap it tightly in foil or cling film, then freeze. When you’re ready, place it straight in the oven from frozen, adding a few more minutes to the baking time. This way the bread stays fresh and bakes up just right. I prefer to freeze it without the cheese, than add the cheese and bake it.
