Valentine’s Day Rice Krispie Treats - Love Letter (Full Tutorial)
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to get creative in the kitchen and whip up something sweet that says "I love you" in the most delicious way possible. I'm so excited to share one of my all-time favorite treats, with a romantic twist, a Valentine’s Day Rice Krispie Treats shaped like love letters.
This idea might look complicated, but I will explain all the steps and will add a video tutorial so you can make it too, and of course customize them with your own personal touches! ❤️
Here are the tools you need
Silicone Baking Mold-Rectangle (you can use code Butter10 for 10% off - Not affiliated)
Candy melts (I used white)
Rice Krispie Treats (you can also make your own recipe)
Gum Paste (I use Satin Ice) - You can use fondant but it might not dry as much as gum paste and might complicate things.
Large heart cutter (Optional - you can use a knife and cut the gum paste)
Edible sugar sheets (I always get mine from SugarArt, you can use code Butter20 for 20% off - Affiliated)
Exacto knife or scissors
Wafer paper
Edible pen (optional to add details)
Mini heart plunger (also optional for additional details)
Steps to make a Rice Krispie treat Love letter for Valentine’s Day
Melting Chocolate
Start by melting your chocolate in the microwave, using 20-second intervals to prevent burning. Stir between each interval until the chocolate is completely smooth. If you're using real chocolate (not candy melts), you'll need to temper it to ensure it sets correctly and has a glossy finish. Refer to this video for an easy step-by-step on hoe to temper chocolate easily.
Once melted, pour a small amount of chocolate into your mold to create a base, add your Rice Krispie treat, press it down a bit, and then cover with more chocolate to seal it. Place in the freezer for a few minutes to set, then gently remove from the mold.
Preparing Gum Paste
Roll out your gum paste on a smooth surface. Use a heart-shaped cutter or a knife to cut out a piece. Ensure the diameter of the gum paste matches the rectangle shape of your chocolate treat because this will sit on top of the chocolate and should cover all edges. Refer to the image below, I have marked in black when you will need to cut.
Cutting Additional Shapes
Cut another piece of gum paste into the shape of the front lower part of an envelope, using the first cutout as a template to ensure matching sizes. If you like, add details like the creases or flap of an envelope to enhance the appearance. Refer to the video tutorial for visual guidance on adding these details.
Adding Edible Paper
Trace the first gum paste cutout onto edible paper to get the exact shape. Cut the paper using an exacto knife or scissors, whichever you find easier. Peel off the cut image, add water to the back (i use a brush) and carefully place it on the gum paste. Allow it to set for a few minutes.
Assembling the Treat
Attach the gum paste with the edible image onto the chocolate Rice Krispie treat using a bit of melted chocolate to secure it. Then, attach the envelope-shaped gum paste piece on top, aligning it according to the red circles in the image below, you need to leave the top side open to insert the letter later.
The Final Touches
Cut a small piece of edible paper to fit as a letter inside your envelope. Use scissors for easier cutting. Write a personalized message (or just lines like I did) on the paper using an edible pen (this is optional of course, you can add whatever details you want).
Insert the letter into the open part of the envelope design. Add any final details to the gum paste or chocolate to complete the look. I added a wax stamp using red gum paste and a mini heart plunger.
