In a heatproof bowl, combine butter and chocolate. Melt in the microwave using 30-second intervals or over a double boiler. Set aside to cool down.
In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and mix on low to combine. Add the melted chocolate mixture and mix on low to combine.
In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to your wet ingredients. Gently fold to combine. Fold in chocolate chips, if using.
Grease your pan and line it with baking paper. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in a preheated oven at 170C (338F) for 25 minutes.
Allow the brownies to cool completely at room temperature before cutting into squares.
